The Mobility to Spain

11th March 2013 to 15th March 2013

The Spanish Partner School is situated in Northern Spain in the Basque Country in a seaside town called Gijón.  The schools in Gijón are financed through the Town Council.  We had an opportunity to visit the Town Hall and meet with one of the councillors to find out how this works.

The Principal of IES No1 Gijón, Julián Dizy García welcomed the group and gave a presentation on the school and on the problems they face regarding Early School Leaving.  The students from Gijón presented samples of their work from Art and Drama to the students and teachers of the Comenius group.

Culturally Gijón has much to share and we were treated to a full day excursion to experience some of the history, geography, lifestyle and culture of the Gijón area.  The main activities of this mobility for the teachers were as follows:

·         Presenting the first draft of our web site

·         Choosing the he winning project logo from the top entries of all partner countries

·         Discussing the school systems of the partner countries.

·         Planning the he Romanian Mobility

The students who travelled to Spain from Turkey, Ireland and Marseilles were involved through their teachers on all levels but also had an opportunity to visit the Primary Schools in the area and share their Comenius experiences with the students there.  Of course there was time for trips to Gijón Aquarium and the Botanical Gardens.  It could be said that the most important part for the students involved was the relationships that developed between the students, regardless of the language barriers.
